add events

Adding user events

• navigate to original date of event
• click "add event" from main menu
• fill in details
• title is required
• description is optional
• check event observation (according to Hebrew calendar, civil, or both)
• select type of event from the radio buttons in the box labeled "Event type"
• when all required details are filled in, the "OK" button will be enabled
• click "OK" to save the event

• let's say we only know Abu Mami's civil birthday, navigate all the way back to Feb 15, 1952
• click "add event" in the menu
• as a title, fill in "Abu Mami"
• fill in "the author of Kaluach" for the description, or leave blank
• check both Hebrew and civil observations so that both types of birthdays will be displayed in Kaluach
• check the "Birthday (male)" radio button in the box labeled "Event type"
• click "OK"
• you should now see "Abu Mami Born" displayed in Feb 15 (19 Shevat)
• you can now scroll up in years and see both the Hebrew birthdays (19 Shevat) and the civil birthdays (Feb 15) for Abu Mami displayed on the screen

• using the above example to describe the problem:
  • If the event occurred before tzeit hakochavim, then the civil date and the Hebrew date correspond. That is, the event occurred on Feb 15 and Shevat 19.
  • If the event occurred after tzeit hakochavim, then although the event occurred on Feb15, according to the Hebrew calendar, the event occurred on Shevat 20
• therefore, two separate events will have to be entered:
  • an event for Feb 15 with only civil observance checked
  • an event for Shevat 20 with only Hebrew observance checked
• important: you must be sure of the exact time of the event
  • check to see if the event occurred before or after tzeit hakochavim
  • if the time of the event occurred at or very close to tzeit hakochavim, it is recommended to consult with the appropriate halachic authority to determine the correct Hebrew date of the event
